Before you begin
Before starting please ensure that you have the following:
Government-issued identity document: Such as a passport, driving license, or ID card
Smart phone or tablet with a functioning camera: You will need this to take a photo of your identity document later in the process, and if required by your law firm, to record a short video to confirm your identity matches your identity document.
Modern internet browser: For optimal performance, use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari. The verification process can be completed on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Your solicitor will provide you with a secure link to submit your identity information through Legl's portal. Open this link to initiate the verification process.
Getting started
Please review Legl's Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, and if you are happy, click 'Agree and continue'.
Your details
The first step is to fill in a few basic details for proof of identification.
Please provide your:
Full name as it appears on your identity document
Contact details
Date of birth
Country
Address:
For United Kingdom Residents: Enter your postcode and click 'Find address'. Select your address from the dropdown list. If your address isn't found, verify the postcode's accuracy or enter your address manually.
For Residents of Other Countries: Manually enter your address details in the provided fields.
If your solicitor has pre-filled some information, please verify its accuracy before proceeding.
Select the Continue button to advance to the next step. If clicking the 'Continue' does not work, please check that all of the required form fields are complete.
Identity verification part 1:
Submit identity document
Introduction
Please carefully read the on-screen instructions and click the blue 'Continue' button to proceed through the multiple onscreen instructions.
Please click the blue 'Choose document' button to continue to the next step.
Choose a document
Please start entering the country that has issued your identity document into the search field, and select it from the list.
A list of acceptable identity documents for the selected country will appear. Choose the document type you intend to use, such as 'Passport' or 'Driver's License'.
If your document type isn't listed, confirm the correct country is selected. If you lack a valid identity document for the chosen country, contact your law firm for assistance.
Take a photo of your identity document
You will now be asked to take a photo of your identity document.
If you're not using a smartphone or tablet, click 'Continue on phone' and follow the instructions to switch devices.
If you're on a smartphone or tablet, tap 'Take a photo'. Your device's camera will activate.

Important: Please check the photograph is in focus and all the information can be read clearly, including:
The edges of your document should be visible
The image should be in colour
The image should not be a scan or photocopy
The image should not have any blur, glare or reflections
It is not a scanned image of your identity document
Once satisfied with the photo, select 'Upload'. If not, choose 'Redo' to capture a new image.
Identity verification part 2:
Record a video
The final step is to record a short video of yourself following some basic instructions that will appear on the screen. This should take no longer than 15 seconds. You will need to complete this step on a smart phone or tablet.
Select the Record video button.
Your browser will request access to your camera and microphone. Grant permission to proceed.
Select the red circular 'record' button to begin.
Follow the onscreen instructions that appear, ensuring the following:
You're in a well-lit environment.
You are the only person in the selfie or video.
You move your head to the left and right, capturing both side profiles.
Select the Finish recording button when done, check your video, then click 'Upload' once you are happy with it.

Final step
Once you have completed the photo and video step, please make sure you click blue 'Submit verification' button which will complete your identity verification process.
