Overview

A contact profile in Legl stores all previous activity and client data for each client you work with. You can create contacts for individuals, businesses, trusts, and vessels. Contacts can be added manually from the Contacts area, or created automatically when sending a pay or engage request.

How to create a contact manually

  1. Go to Contacts and select + Create contact in the top right.

  2. Alternatively, select Quick Actions at the top of any page, then select Create a new contact.

  3. Select the contact type: Individual, Business, Trust, or Vessel.

  4. Enter the details for the contact type selected:

    • Individual — email, first name, last name, middle name (optional), client reference (optional)

    • Business — company name, company number (optional), country. Select Start company search to search for an existing business, or Add details manually to enter them directly

    • Trust — trust name, client reference (optional), matter reference (optional), jurisdiction (optional), tax reference (optional)

    • Vessel — vessel name, IMO number (optional), country (optional), client reference (optional)

  5. Select Create contact, Create trust, or Create vessel depending on the contact type.

ℹ️ Tip

A contact is automatically created when sending a Pay or Engage request if they do not already exist in the platform.

What happens next

  • After creating the contact, the new profile is added immediately and is accessible from the Contacts dashboard.

  • If a contact is created during a request, their profile will be available under Contacts once the request has been successfully submitted.

Important information

  • Legl supports four contact types: Individual, Business, Trust, and Vessel.

  • If a contact profile already exists for an email address, Legl will prompt you to select it rather than creating a duplicate.

  • Vessels is an opt-in contact type and will not appear if not enabled for your firm.
