Overview

Creating a Trust in Legl allows you to manage trust matters as structured entities, separate from individuals and businesses. You would do this when onboarding new trust work, even if the trust deed is not yet available.

How to create a Trust

  1. Go to Contacts in the Legl platform.

  2. Click Create contact.

  3. Select Trust from the contact type options.

  4. Enter the trust details, such as the trust name and any internal references (for example, client or matter reference).

  5. Review the information and click Create.

What happens next

Once the trust has been created:

  • The trust exists as its own structured entity in Legl.

  • An Activity tab is available on the trust record, showing all actions and checks related to the trust.

  • You can start risk assessments directly from the trust.

  • You can manually associate existing individual or business contacts to the trust.

  • You can upload and analyse a trust deed at any time to extract the details of relevant individuals and roles from the trust.

Important information

  • Creating a trust is non-chargeable.

  • A trust can be created without uploading or analysing a trust deed.

  • Trust deed analysis and AML checks are optional and completed as separate steps.
