Understanding your CDD report

What each section of the CDD report covers, how results are displayed on the Full application details page, and what the different result statuses mean.

Written by Ula Moyse-White

Overview

When a client completes an Engage request, Legl generates a Client Due Diligence (CDD) report. This report brings together the results of automated checks run on your client's identity, financial background, and watchlist screening status.

This article explains what each section of the report covers, how it is displayed on the Full application details page, and what the different result statuses mean. For firms on a DIATF-certified plan, the report also includes an Identity fraud screening section.

What the report contains

The Full application details page lists every section of the report down the left-hand side, for example:

  • Basic information

  • Identity

  • Documents

  • Verification breakdown

  • Proof of Address

  • Watchlist screening

  • Financial screening

The exact sections shown depend on your workflow. Select any section to expand it for more detail.

ℹ️ Important

The Identity fraud screening section only appears in CDD reports for firms that have opted in to a DIATF-certified plan. If your firm is not on a certified plan, you will not see this section in your reports.

Where to find this in Legl

CDD reports are accessible from the Engage section of your Legl dashboard.

  • Open the relevant Engage request to see the review page, which lists any items that need attention.

  • Select Full application details to see every section of the report in one place.

  • Select Download report (PDF) in the top right to download the report. Downloading after the review is complete gives you the updated report, including final watchlist match decisions and any comments added during the review.

ℹ️ Further guidance

To review a request and sign it off, see How to review and sign off an Engage request.

How identity results are displayed

The uploaded ID document and the biometric selfie are shown together, with a Genuine badge if the document passed authenticity checks. Each piece of personal and document data extracted from the document is listed with a green tick.

Verification breakdown

Underneath, the Verification breakdown groups every automated check that was run, for example:

  • Document checks

  • Identity checks to review

  • Biometrics checks

Each line item shows a Clear or Consider status and can be expanded for further detail.

Understanding results

Each section of the report shows one of three result statuses.

In the left-hand sections list, a section with an orange dot needs attention and a grey dot means it is clear.

Clear

The check was completed successfully and no concerns were identified. No further action is required for that section.

Consider (non-conformity)

The check could not be fully verified and requires your review. A Consider result does not mean your client is fraudulent. It means something could not be conclusively confirmed, and additional context or documentation may be needed before you can reach a decision. Your firm's risk-based approach determines what action to take.

ℹ️ Further guidance

For a full breakdown of what causes a Consider result in each section and the recommended next steps, see Understanding a "Consider" result in a CDD report.

Not applicable

The check could not be run, typically because the client has a non-UK address. In these cases, Legl automatically prompts the client to upload a supporting document for manual review instead.

ℹ️ Further guidance

For more detail on what this means and what to do next, see Understanding an N/A result in a CDD report.

Basic information

The details your client provided when they completed the request, for example their full name, date of birth, and current address. These are the details Legl uses to run the automated checks.

Documents

The documents your client uploaded as part of the request, for example their identity document and proof of address. You can view and download each document from this section.

Identity checks

Three checks are run to confirm that your client is who they say they are.

Document checks

Legl checks that the identity document your client uploaded is genuine and matches the information they provided. This includes checks on document features, expiry status, and whether the details on the document match what the client entered during the request.

Identity checks to review

Legl checks your client's name, date of birth, and address against third-party data sources including credit agencies, the electoral roll, and telephone databases. This confirms that the individual exists as described and is associated with the address they provided. These identity checks are only available for clients with a UK address.

ℹ️ Further guidance

For more detail on these results, see Understanding Identity Validation results.

Biometric checks

Legl checks that the person completing the request is a real, live individual whose face matches the identity document they uploaded. This includes liveness detection to prevent spoofing or the use of a static photograph.

Dual-ID CDD

ℹ️ Further guidance

For a Dual-ID CDD request, the report shows two document checks instead of one. See Understanding your Dual-ID CDD report.

Proof of Address

Where a Proof of Address check is part of your workflow, this section confirms the client's address against the document they supplied.

There are two options, and which one you see depends on your firm's settings:

  • Proof of Address (advanced) — Legl verifies the document automatically

  • Proof of Address (manual) — your firm reviews the document

Proof of Address (advanced)

Legl verifies the uploaded document automatically. The section shows its own summary of what was checked, a table of the data extracted from the document, and its own verification breakdown in the same format as the identity checks.

Proof of Address (manual)

The uploaded document is available to download and review directly, so you can check it against your firm's requirements yourself.

Financial Screening

Legl checks for county court judgements (CCJs), debt collection activity, and whether a record for the individual can be found in credit agency data. This check is only available for individuals with a UK address.

Clients with a non-UK address will receive an N/A result for this section.

Watchlist Screening

Legl checks your client against global sanctions lists, Politically Exposed Person (PEP) datasets, adverse media sources, and law enforcement lists. This check applies to all clients regardless of their location.

The section shows:

  • the total number of matches, and how many are medium or low likelihood

  • what was screened, for example PEPs, Sanctions, and Warnings

  • a progress bar showing how many matches you have reviewed

For each potential match, review the supporting information and select Match or Not a match. You can mark all low likelihood matches as not a match in one action.

Identity fraud screening

ℹ️ Important

The DIATF-certified plan is not automatically enabled. Please reach out to our support team or your Customer Success Manager for more information.

For firms on a DIATF-certified plan, Legl runs a series of identity fraud checks using public and private sector data. These checks assess whether the claimed identity may be linked to previous fraud or impersonation, belong to someone deceased, use compromised identity documents, or be synthetic. Five checks run as part of this section:

  • NSIRA – Fraud check — screens the identity for fraud markers on the SIRA database

  • NSIRA – Impersonation check — screens for impersonation markers on the SIRA database

  • DDRI (Deceased Identity) check — checks whether the identity appears on the deceased persons register

  • Identity document fraud check — checks whether the supplied identity documents appear on the police database of lost, stolen, or fraudulent identity documents

  • Synthetic identity check — assesses whether the identity may be synthetic

Each check returns its own result. If any return a Consider, the overall Identity fraud screening section will show Consider for your review.

ℹ️ Further guidance

For detail on what each fraud check result means and what to do when a Consider result appears, see Understanding fraud check results.

Important information

  • CDD results represent the outcome of automated checks at the time the request was submitted. They are not a legal determination and must be interpreted using your firm's own risk-based approach and internal policies.

  • Which sections appear in the report depends on your firm's workflow.

  • Proof of Address is available as an advanced (automatically verified) or manual (reviewed by your firm) check, depending on your firm's settings.

  • Financial screening is only available for individuals with a UK address. All other clients will receive an N/A result for this section.

  • Identity check results may vary for clients who have recently moved address, have a non-UK address, or have limited coverage across the data sources used.

  • The Identity fraud screening section is only available for firms on a DIATF-certified plan.

  • Unreviewed watchlist screening results will continue to generate monitoring alerts, even once the application has been signed off.

  • Legl cannot provide legal advice on how to interpret or act on CDD results. Your firm is responsible for applying its own escalation and review procedures.
