Understanding an "N/A" result in a CDD report

What an N/A result in the identity section of a CDD report means and what to do next

Written by Ula Moyse-White

Overview

An N/A result in the identity check section of a CDD report means that Legl was unable to run a full electronic identity check because the client has a non-UK address. In these cases, the client is automatically prompted to upload a proof of address document instead.

Where you will see this

You will see an N/A result in the identity check section when reviewing a CDD report for an individual client in Legl. It appears where a Clear or Consider result would normally be shown.

What this means

An N/A result indicates that the client's address is outside the UK, which means Legl's electronic identity verification cannot be completed using its standard UK data sources.

When this happens:

  • The identity check section of the report is marked as N/A

  • The client is automatically prompted to upload a proof of address document

  • The uploaded document appears on the last page of the PDF report generated for your review

ℹ️ Further guidance

For a full breakdown of Identity Validation result criteria, see Understanding Identity Validation results.

Common reasons you might see this

  • The client has provided a non-UK address as their current address

  • The client is an overseas individual client

What you need to do

Open the PDF report for the client and navigate to the last page to review the proof of address document they have uploaded. Use this document to manually verify their address as part of your CDD process.

What happens next

Once the client submits their proof of address, it is automatically attached to the CDD report. No further action is required in Legl — the report will show the uploaded document for your review.

Important information

  • An N/A result does not mean the client has failed due diligence. It means the electronic identity check could not be run for their address.

  • The client is automatically prompted to upload a proof of address document — no action is needed in Legl to trigger this.

  • The proof of address document appears on the last page of the downloadable PDF report. Review it before marking the report as reviewed.

  • Identity Validation is only available for clients with a UK address. All clients with a non-UK address will receive an N/A result for this section.
