What clients experience during a Dual-ID CDD request

Understand the steps your client goes through during a Dual-ID CDD request, including uploading two identity documents.

Overview

This article walks through the Dual-ID CDD request journey from your client's perspective, from receiving their link through to submission. The main difference from a standard CDD request is that the client uploads two identity documents instead of one.

Step 1: Accessing the request

Once you send your client their unique link, they open the request, which shows your law firm's branding. The request outlines who it is for, and the client can view Legl's terms of use and privacy policy.

Step 2: Client information

The client's first name, last name, and email address are pre-populated from when you created the request. The client then adds their address and any other required details. These details are used for the Identity Validation check, which runs in the background.

Step 3: Uploading the passport

The client uploads their passport first. Legl checks the document is valid and in date. If the passport is expired or cannot be read, the client is asked to try again.

Guidance shown to the client includes:

  • Use a photograph, not a scan or printout.

  • Avoid glare and keep the camera in focus.

  • Enable both the camera and microphone.

  • Use the Chrome browser where possible.

Step 4: Uploading the second document

The client then uploads a second, different document: a national ID card or a UK photocard driving licence. Legl checks it is valid and that it is not the same document as the first. The client cannot submit the same document twice.

Step 5: Biometric selfie

The client completes one biometric selfie video, recording their face while looking left and right. This selfie is matched against both uploaded documents.

Uploading via mobile

If the client prefers to use their phone, they can select "Continue on phone" to receive a secure link, then scan the screen or copy the link to continue on their mobile device.

If a document is not accepted

If a document is wrong, expired, or a duplicate, the client is prompted to try again. After three attempts, the flow stops blocking: it processes the check on the last document uploaded and flags the reason to your firm for review.

Additional proof of address

If your workflow requires it, the client can also upload a proof of address document by PDF or JPEG upload, or by dragging and dropping it into the box.

Submission

Once everything is complete, the client submits their request and sees a green tick confirming submission.

Notification

After submission, your firm receives an email notification confirming the client has completed their request.

Important information

  • The client uploads two different documents: a passport first, then a national ID card or UK photocard driving licence.

  • The same document cannot be used twice.

  • The identity checks require live photos of original, government-issued documents. Scans or printouts are likely to return a consider result.

  • After three failed attempts on a document, the request still completes and the issue is flagged to your firm.

  • Identity Validation runs in the background for UK resident clients only and returns N/A for clients who are not UK residents.
