How to turn on or edit a risk rule

Turn risk rules on or off and edit their action and client help text on the Universal and Custom tabs.

Overview

Each risk rule says what Legl should do when a client's submission matches something in your policy. Rules read as WHEN something happens, THEN Legl takes an action, for example WHEN a client's passport is unsigned, THEN ask for a signed passport.

Admins turn rules on or off and edit them in Governance, then Risk rules, on the Universal and Custom tabs. Changes apply to new onboardings.

Before you start

  • Universal rules are available to every firm. Custom rules must be set up for your firm first, and your first Custom rules are set up with the Legl Launch team.

  • You must be an Admin. Other users can view your rules but cannot change them.

How to find a rule

  1. Select Governance in the left-hand navigation, then select Risk rules.

  2. Select the Universal tab for rules included for every firm, or the Custom tab for rules built from your risk policy.

  3. On the Custom tab, search by name, trigger or action, or filter by Area or Status. Areas include Identity Verification, Proof of Address, Watchlist Screening, Fraud Check, Basic Information, NFC and Source of funds. Status shows whether a rule is On or Available.

Rules are grouped by area. Each rule card shows the WHEN and THEN, the Client help text your client sees where there is one, and its status.

How to turn on a rule

  1. Find the rule on the Universal or Custom tab. Only rules marked Available can be turned on.

  2. Select Turn on.

  3. In the Turn this rule on? window, select Turn it on. The rule starts working straight away and its status changes to On.

The rule uses its default action and client help text. To change these first, edit the rule instead.

How to edit a rule

  1. Find the rule and select Edit. The Edit rule panel opens, with three steps: Action, Configure and Review.

  2. Under What should happen?, choose the action Legl takes when the rule fires, then select Next.

  3. Under Configure the rule, keep the default Client help text or write your own. This is the message your client sees if the rule fires and they need to do something. You can use bold, italics, lists and links. Select Next.

  4. Under Review changes, check the rule, then select Save changes. Select Back to change something, or Cancel to leave without saving.

The Review changes step also shows a Recommended tick box. Your Legl launch manager may set a rule as recommended, or this is done automatically if your AML or risk policy was added directly into the platform.

For Universal rules with settings, such as treating selected identity check reasons as clear, Edit opens Configure the rule, where you choose the settings, then Review and add.

How to turn off a rule

Find the rule and select Turn off, then confirm. You can also select Turn off on the Review changes step when you edit a rule that is on. The status changes to Available. Universal rules marked Always on cannot be turned off.

How to see a rule's history

Select History on the rule card. Rule history lists each time the rule was created, turned on or turned off, with who did it and when.

What happens next

  • Changes apply to new onboardings. Requests already in progress are not changed.

  • Every change to a rule is recorded in its Rule history.

  • The Overview tab shows how many onboarding issues your rules resolved with the client automatically over the last 7 days.

Important information

  • Universal rules marked Always on run for every firm and cannot be turned off.

  • When a rule asks your client to put something right, an additional check runs each time they resubmit, at your standard rates.

  • You set how many times a client can submit a document on a single step before the request is sent for review, under Configure, then Document retry attempts. The first submission counts, and the default is 3.

  • Write client help text in plain language. Your client sees it while they are completing their request.
