Overview
If your NFC identity check does not complete as expected, this article covers what each message means and what to do next.
Why this happens
Your NFC check can stop for a few different reasons. Find the message or situation you are seeing below.
What to do next
Processing your verification
If you see 'Processing your verification' on the NFC step of your request, this can mean one of two things.
Your request is incomplete
If you have not yet completed all steps in the Mitek app, you will need to return to the app to finish.
Open the Mitek app on the same device that you started it on
Continue the process where you left off, or click Legl to continue the process
When you have finished, you will see the below screen, or be redirected to the Legl Engage request on your browser.
Your verification is being processed
If you have completed all steps in the Mitek app, your verification is being processed in the background. Return to the Mitek app to check the status of your verification.
You may see the following page:
In this case, wait for the check to finish processing and then refresh the Legl Engage request in your browser.
Document not readable
If Mitek cannot read your document during the NFC scan, try the following:
Check that NFC is enabled on your device
Position your document correctly and hold it still against your device
Use an NFC-capable device
Partial verification
Some countries do not publish the signing certificates needed to fully verify a passport chip, which can limit verification to a partial result. If this happens, contact our Support team for additional options.
Document not supported
Mitek cannot read non-ICAO documents. Check that your document has an NFC chip before trying again.
What happens after you take action
Once you have resolved the issue, return to the Mitek app or your Legl request to continue. If your check completes successfully, you will see a confirmation screen and can finish any remaining steps with your law firm.
Important information
NFC verification only works with a passport or ID document that has an electronic chip.
If your document cannot be verified via NFC, for example if your passport does not have a chip or the chip cannot be scanned, contact your law firm. They can switch you to a standard identity check.
