Overview
Automated Proof of Address Verification is supported across 80+ countries. Accepted document types and date requirements vary by jurisdiction. This article lists all supported issuing countries, grouped by region, and the document types accepted for each group.
How document acceptance works
When a client completes the Proof of Address step, they select their issuing country and are shown the document types available to them. Legl determines which documents are accepted based on the client's country group.
Documents are accepted in all languages and scripts, including Cyrillic, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
Both digital and scanned originals are accepted where appropriate.
UK clients are additionally cross-checked against the UK Electoral Register. All other checks are performed on the document itself.

Countries are organised into three groups. Each group determines which document types are accepted and how recent the document must be.

What happens if a country is not supported
If a client's country is not supported by automated verification, Legl will automatically fall back to manual document collection at no extra cost to your firm. The client will still be asked to upload a document, but no automated checks will be applied. Your team reviews the document directly.
Important information
Firms cannot customise which document types are accepted. Acceptance rules follow jurisdiction-specific standards.
Date requirements refer to how recent the document must be at the time of upload.
Legl updates supported countries and document types periodically. If a country or document type you need is not listed, contact Legl Support.
