ℹ️ Phase 2 of 4 — Module setup / Engage — Step 1 of 3
Before you can build Engage workflows, you need to configure the settings that govern how Legl handles reminders, compliance notifications, and email behaviour for every client request your firm sends.
If your firm is not using Engage, skip to Launch Phase 3: How to add and manage users.
Most of these settings only need to be configured once, but getting them right before you build workflows saves rework later. The MLRO email address especially: this is what controls where your compliance alerts land, and it is worth confirming with your compliance lead before you save. Take 15 minutes here and your firm will be set up correctly from the first request.
Once your settings are saved, every Engage request will carry the right compliance contacts, reminders, and notifications in place from day one.
Before you start
You need Admin permissions in Legl to access Engage settings.
Have your MLRO's email address to hand before you start. This is your firm's Money Laundering Reporting Officer, not necessarily the person doing the setup. Confirm it with your compliance lead if you are unsure.
Decide in advance how quickly your firm wants reminders to go out to clients. Check with your compliance lead or supervisor whether there is a firm preference before setting the default cadence.

Step-by-step guide
Go to Settings in the left-hand navigation, then select Engage.
In the Reminder start after days field, enter the number of days after the initial client email that the first automated reminder should be sent.
Enter your MLRO's email address in the MLRO email field. To add multiple recipients, separate each address with a comma. Loop in your compliance lead here to confirm the correct address before you save.
Set the MLRO email trigger to control when the MLRO is notified: choose On completion for all completed engagements, EDD only to be notified only when Enhanced Due Diligence is flagged, or None to send no notifications.
Enter an email address in the Escalation alert email field. This sends a direct notification when a PEP hit, sanctions match, or high-risk country result is identified on a completed engagement. The alert goes straight to the recipient without requiring a fee-earner to flag it.
Set your BCC on request email and CC on request email preferences. These control whether the lawyer who sends the request receives a copy of the outgoing client email. BCC is silent; CC is visible to the client.
Review the failed delivery notification settings. Enable Notify sender, Notify reviewer, or both to alert the relevant person if an Engage email fails to reach a client.
Save your settings.
Important information
Changes to Engage settings take effect immediately and apply to all future requests. Existing in-progress requests are not affected.
The MLRO email field accepts multiple addresses separated by commas. If the field is left blank, no MLRO notifications will be sent.
Escalation alerts cover high-priority compliance signals: PEP hits, sanctions matches, and high-risk country results. For notifications on all completed engagements, use the MLRO email trigger set to On completion.
Optional settings such as newly issued ID threshold and recent check threshold can be left blank now and configured after go-live if needed.
Only Admin users can view and edit Engage settings.
