Launch Phase 1: Getting started with Legl

A complete guide to setting up Legl for the first time: what to expect, what to prepare, and how to move through each phase.

ℹ️ Phase 1 of 4 — Welcome and account setup

Step 1 of 2: This article sets out what to expect from the full setup journey and how to plan your path through it.

Welcome to the start of your Legl Launch. Setting up Legl properly from the start makes everything easier later: fewer questions from your team, fewer things to fix after go-live, and a launch that genuinely sticks. This guide is written to take you through the process in the right order, so you can move at your own pace and know exactly where you are at every step.

Most firms complete their initial setup within one to two weeks. If you are configuring multiple modules or involving others in the process, allow a little more time and use this guide to coordinate who needs to be involved and when.

This collection covers everything you need to set up and launch Legl. If you have questions along the way, your Launch Manager is your first point of contact. You can also reach our Support team at any time using the chat icon at the bottom of any page.

ℹ️ Video walkthrough

A welcome walkthrough of the Legl platform will be available here shortly. Once it is live, we recommend watching it before you start Phase 1. It will give you a clear picture of where everything lives before you begin configuring.

What you will be able to do

  • Configure your firm's account settings

  • Set up the modules your firm is using: Pay, Engage, Risk Assessments, and Integrations

  • Add your team and set the right access level for each person

  • Prepare your team for go-live so the transition lands well

  • Launch on a date that works for your firm, with confidence

  • Plan your training rollout so your team is ready to use Legl from day one

Before you start

Gather the following before your first configuration session. Having these ready means you will not need to stop and search for them mid-setup.

  • The name and email address of your MLRO or compliance lead, if you are using Engage

  • A clear idea of the onboarding workflow you want to use for client due diligence, if you are setting up Engage. You will be asked to configure this in Phase 2.

  • Bank account details for the account you will receive client payments into, if you are using Pay

  • Admin access to your practice management system, if you are connecting an integration. If you do not have this, identify your IT contact before you begin.

  • Email addresses for all staff who will use Legl. You will need these in Phase 3 when you add your team.

How the four phases work

Work through the articles below in order. Phase 2 has one article per module. Skip any that cover modules your firm is not using.

Phase 1 — Welcome and account setup

This is where you review your firm's account settings and the client-facing links that Legl has set up for you. There are two articles in this phase. It should take no more than a few hours.

Phase 2 — Set up your modules

Each module has its own article. Work through the ones that apply to your firm and skip the rest.

Phase 3 — Change management

In our experience, this phase makes the biggest difference between a launch that works and one that quietly does not. Phase 3 starts by adding your team to Legl, once your modules are configured and ready for them to land in. From there, it covers everything you need to bring your team along: how to build internal support, how to communicate the change, how to plan training, and how to keep momentum after go-live.

Phase 4 — Go live

A final checklist to work through before you switch on, what to expect on the day itself, and what happens in the weeks that follow. By the time you reach this phase, going live should feel like a formality, not a leap of faith.

Important information

ℹ️ Important

  • Add your team to Legl in Phase 3, once your modules are fully configured. This gives everyone the best possible first experience of the platform and sets your launch up for success. Team setup is covered in Phase 3, Step 1.

  • If you are going through a managed implementation, your Launch Manager will confirm which modules are in scope before you begin.

Before you move on

  • You know which modules your firm is setting up

  • You have gathered everything in the preparation checklist above

  • You know who else will need to be involved at different points (MLRO, IT contact, heads of department)

  • You are ready to move to Phase 1, Step 2

ℹ️ Next step

Once you have everything you need, move to Launch Phase 1: How to set up your Legl account to begin configuration.
