How to run a KYB check in NebuLAW

Step-by-step guide to running a Legl KYB check on a business entity directly from a record in NebuLAW.

Written by Shanté Simpson

Overview

If your firm uses the Legl and NebuLAW integration, you can run Know Your Business (KYB) checks on business entities directly from a record in NebuLAW. Unlike KYC, the KYB process involves searching for and selecting a business from within NebuLAW before the check is run.

This article explains how to run a KYB check from start to finish, and what data is returned to NebuLAW once the check is complete.

Before you start

  • Your firm must have the Legl and NebuLAW integration set up and active

  • You need access to the relevant matter or client record in NebuLAW

  • You need to know the company name or registration number of the business you want to verify

How to run a KYB check in NebuLAW

  1. Open the relevant matter or client record in NebuLAW.

  2. Use the Legl KYB functionality to search for the business you want to verify. You can search by company name or registration number.

  3. Review the search results and select the correct business entity from the list. Make sure you match the exact registered entity, particularly where there are multiple companies with similar names.

  4. Initiate the check within NebuLAW. Legl runs the business verification in the background, including company data and a sanctions screen.

  5. Review the full results in Legl. You will be able to see the company report, sanctions check results, and Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs) within the Legl platform.

ℹ️ Important

KYB results are reviewed in Legl, not within NebuLAW. NebuLAW provides a link and a summary, but for full review, compliance sign-off, and audit purposes, always access the report through Legl.

What information is returned to NebuLAW

Once the KYB check is complete, the following information is returned to the matter or client record in NebuLAW:

  • Company report: returned to the matter or client record

  • Reviewed sanctions report: returned to the matter or client record

  • Link to the Legl Business record: a direct link back to the full record in Legl for further review

Additional information, including Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs) and the full audit trail, is available within the Legl Business record.

ℹ️ Tip

Ultimate Beneficial Owner (UBO) information can be uncovered in Legl using the company investigation tools. Click through to the Legl Business record from NebuLAW to explore UBOs, company structure, and associated individuals.

What happens next

  • The company report and sanctions report are stored on the matter or client record in NebuLAW

  • The link to the Legl Business record gives your team easy access to the full company investigation tools, UBO information, and audit trail

  • Compliance sign-off and ongoing review are completed in Legl

Important information

  • KYB requires you to search for and select the correct business in NebuLAW before initiating the check. Selecting the wrong entity will run the check against an incorrect company

  • KYB results are reviewed in Legl, not in NebuLAW. The information returned to NebuLAW is a summary view with a link back to the full record

  • UBO investigation, sanctions review, and full audit trail are available in Legl

  • Configuration changes to how or where KYB results display in NebuLAW require changes to the Salesforce environment by the Dye and Durham team
