What is the Consultancy Model in Legl?

Learn how the Consultancy Model limits fee earner visibility so each user can only see their own checks and requests in Legl.

Written by Ula Moyse-White

By default, all users in Legl can see every Engage request and check across the firm. The Consultancy Model is a permission setting that changes this behaviour, restricting what non-admin users can see so that each fee earner only has access to their own requests. Admins always retain full visibility of everything across the firm.

What you can use the Consultancy Model for

The Consultancy Model is designed for firms where individual fee earners or practitioners operate independently and should not have access to each other's client data. It is suitable when:

  • Your firm has self-employed or independently operating practitioners who need to keep their client data separate from colleagues

  • Your firm has strict internal data privacy requirements between fee earners

  • You need to limit what non-admin users can see, while keeping full oversight at admin level

How the Consultancy Model works

When the Consultancy Model is enabled, non-admin users can only view the Engage requests and checks they have created or been assigned to. They will not be able to see requests belonging to other fee earners.

Admin users are not affected and will continue to have full visibility of all requests and checks across the firm.

The model is applied at firm level. It is not possible to enable it for some users and not others — all non-admin users will be subject to the same visibility restriction.

Permissions and access

  • Admin users — full visibility of all requests and checks across the firm

  • Non-admin users (fee earners) — visibility of their own requests and checks only

Important information

  • The Consultancy Model is a firm-wide setting. It cannot be applied to individual users — once enabled, it applies to all non-admin users in your firm.

  • It is only recommended for firms using Legl as a standalone product. If your firm uses a Legl integration with a practice management system, enabling this setting may cause unexpected behaviour.

  • The Consultancy Model does not provide full information barriers or ethical walls. It limits visibility within Legl only and should not be relied on as a complete data segregation solution.

  • If your firm needs to reassign Engage requests to different reviewers, confirm this requirement with our Support team before enabling the Consultancy Model, as this functionality may be affected.
