Overview

If you are having trouble finding a company in Legl, there are a few common reasons this can happen. Follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Before you search

Check the following before running your search:

  • You are using the company's registered name, not its trading name

  • The company name is spelled correctly

  • You have selected the correct country of registration β€” search results are country-specific

What to try

  1. Search by company registration number instead of name β€” this is the most reliable way to find a specific company.

  2. Try a shorter version of the name. For example, search "Legl" rather than "Legl Limited" to return all variations.

  3. Check whether the company has recently changed its name or operates under a different alias. Confirm with your client or run an online search.

  4. Make sure you have selected the correct country of registration in the search filter.

The company was recently registered

Newly registered companies appear in Legl 2–3 days after incorporation. If the company was registered very recently, try your search again in a couple of days.

The company shows limited or no information in results

If a company is found but shows no address or no 'last report change', this usually means that Legl's data provider has limited information available for that company. This can happen for companies registered in lower-data jurisdictions.

This does not necessarily mean the full report will be empty, but it may indicate limited data is available for that company.

The report for a supported jurisdiction came back empty

Data availability varies across jurisdictions and individual companies. Legl relies on data provided by Dun & Bradstreet (D&B), which periodically updates its database. Some overseas entities may not yet be included, or may be flagged for a future update.

If you still can't find the company

If you have tried the steps above and still cannot locate the company, you can use Legl's Engage workflows to manually collect the information you need directly from your client. For example:

  • Add a Document Request step to ask for a certificate of incorporation

  • Add a Customisable Form step to request specific company details

All information gathered through a workflow will be stored with the business entity in Legl.
