Overview

Company statuses in Legl are derived from the latest filing data for each company. Legl shows a status description which is more detailed than the high-level status shown on Companies House. For example, Legl may show Active – Newly incorporated where Companies House shows simply Active.

This article explains the statuses you may see in Legl and what they mean.

Active

The company is currently trading and in good standing.

Active – Newly incorporated

The company is active but was recently incorporated. This is a more specific variation of the Active status.

Dormant

The company has filed dormant accounts with Companies House, indicating it is not currently trading. This status will update when the company next files documents indicating it has resumed trading.

Note: If a company shows as Dormant in Legl but shows as Active on Companies House, it is because Legl reflects the status from the company's most recent filed accounts. Once the company files updated documents showing it is trading, the status will update in Legl.

Analysed – Query raised

The company's accounts have been analysed but a query has been raised over the analysis. These companies will often move to a live status quickly. If they remain in this status, it is because a query has been raised with the relevant registry (such as Companies House or the CRO).

Analysed – Non balancing

The company's balance sheet does not balance. This means Legl is unable to provide a credit rating or limit for this company.

Status showing as a grey circle (–)

A dark grey circle with a dash is displayed when the search has been unable to return a company status (for example, Active, Inactive, or Dissolved). This is a data availability issue rather than an issue with the company itself.

Why does the status in Legl differ from Companies House?

Legl shows the full status description from the latest filing data, whereas Companies House typically shows only the high-level status. This means the wording may differ even when both are technically correct.

Status is also derived from the most recent filing updates. If a company has recently changed status but has not yet filed updated documents, there may be a short lag before the status is reflected in Legl.
