Overview

Payments: Billing and Insights dashboards provide a visual summary of your firm’s payment activity in Legl. They help you monitor performance, track trends, and understand how clients are paying over time. This article explains what the dashboards show and how to interpret the data.

Where you will see this

You can access the Pay dashboards from:

Insights → Pay

This section is typically used by finance teams, operations teams, or partners who want visibility over payment performance and trends.

The dashboards update automatically based on activity in your Pay dashboard.

The insights dashboard

The Pay insights dashboard presents aggregated payment data in visual and summary formats. This may include:

  • Total payments processed

  • Payment volumes over time

  • Breakdown by payment type

  • Trends in completed and outstanding payments

The data shown reflects payments processed through Legl and is designed to give a high-level view of financial activity, rather than a line-by-line transaction list.

The dashboards are informational and reporting-focused. They do not replace the Payments dashboard, where individual payment actions are managed.

The Billing dashboard

The Billing section provides a detailed, exportable view of all payment transactions processed through Legl.

From this dashboard, you can filter by relative date, custom date range and department to analyse activity over specific periods.

The table includes key transaction data such as:

  • Legl reference

  • Date and time of payment

  • Department

  • Payer name

  • Invoice reference

  • Matter reference

  • Transaction type (for example local card fees or higher card fees)

  • Card country

  • Card brand

  • Payment amount

  • and transaction fee

This view is particularly useful for finance teams managing reconciliation, reviewing processing fees, and generating reports for internal or accounting purposes.

Common reasons you might use this

You may use the Pay dashboards to:

  • Monitor overall payment performance across your firm

  • Review trends over a selected time period

  • Compare payment methods being used by clients

  • Support internal reporting or finance reviews

  • Identify patterns in outstanding or completed payments

What happens next

  • You do not need to take any action for the dashboards to update, the payment data is automatically reflected based on activity in your Pay dashboard.

  • You can download the dashboards as PDFs for internal distribution.

Note: If you need to take action on a specific payment (for example, closing a link or marking as paid), this must be done from the Payments dashboard, not within Insights.

Important information

  • The Insights > Pay dashboards are reporting tools only. You cannot edit, close, or manage payments from this view.

  • The data shown reflects activity processed through Legl. Payments taken outside of Legl will only appear if they have been manually recorded in the Payments dashboard.

  • Access to Insights may depend on your role and permissions within Legl.
