How to review Watchlist Screening results using AI-assisted review

Switch to AI-assisted Watchlist Screening review and use AI summaries and result categories to review matches faster.

Written by Ula Moyse-White

Overview

AI-assisted Watchlist Screening review groups your results into two categories to help you focus on the matches most likely to relate to your client. For each result, the AI provides a short summary explaining its assessment.

This article explains how to switch to the AI-assisted view and how to work through your results using the AI categories and summaries.

Before you start

  • You need a completed Watchlist Screening check that has returned a Consider result.

  • You need permission to review CDD reports in Legl.

How to switch to AI-assisted review

If your firm is still using the legacy review format, you will see a blue banner at the top of the Watchlist Screening panel.

  1. Go to Engage → Individuals and select your client.

  2. Open the Watchlist Screening section of the CDD report.

  3. If the blue banner is visible, select Switch to AI review.

  4. The results will reload grouped into two categories: Likely the same person and Likely a different person.

ℹ️ Tip

The banner reads: You're using the old watchlist review. Switch to AI-assisted review to better identify which watchlist hits are true matches, speeding up reviews and enabling faster, more confident decisions.

How to review your results

In the AI-assisted view, results are grouped into two sections. Start with the Likely the same person category, then work through Likely a different person.

Review results in Likely the same person

  1. Select a result to open it.

  2. Read the AI summary at the top of the result. This explains why the match was placed in this category and highlights the key data points used in the assessment.

  3. Review the full match details: name, date of birth, country, and source links.

  4. Decide whether the match relates to your client:

    • If yes: select Yes – this is my client and add a comment explaining your reasoning.

    • If no: select No – not my client and add a comment explaining your reasoning.

  5. Select Add comment to save your decision.

  6. Repeat for all remaining results in this category.

Review results in Likely a different person

Results in this category still require a review decision. The AI's assessment indicates these are unlikely to relate to your client, but your firm must apply its own judgement before discounting them.

  1. Select a result to open it.

  2. Read the AI summary to understand why the match was placed in this category.

  3. If you agree the match is unrelated: select No – not my client and add a brief comment.

  4. If you believe the match is relevant: select Yes – this is my client and add a comment with your reasoning.

  5. Select Add comment to save your decision.

  6. Continue until all results have a recorded decision.

What happens next

  • Decisions and comments are saved and included in the final CDD report once the request is marked as reviewed.

  • Matches marked Yes will continue to be monitored via Ongoing Monitoring.

  • Matches marked No will be removed from Ongoing Monitoring, reducing unnecessary alerts going forward.

Important information

  • The AI categories are a triage aid. Your firm must still review all results and record a decision for each one.

  • Do not skip results in the Likely a different person category without reviewing them. The AI's assessment is not a substitute for your firm's judgement.

  • The AI can only assess information included in the screening result. It does not have access to your firm's internal client records.

  • Always document your reasoning when discounting a match, particularly for PEP or sanctions results.

  • Legl does not provide legal advice. Each firm must apply its own risk-based approach and internal escalation process.
