Overview

The Risk Assessment Template Builder allows admin users to create and manage the templates that fee-earners use to complete risk assessments in Legl.

You can build new templates from scratch, or edit existing ones without affecting the live version your firm is currently using.

Before you start

Before building or editing a Risk Assessment template, ensure that:

  • You have admin access to the Risk Assessments area in Legl

  • You understand your firm's risk policy and the questions you want to include

  • If editing a published template, you are aware that changes will only go live when you publish the updated draft

ℹ️ Important

Published templates that are currently in use cannot be edited directly. You must create a draft version first. The live version remains unchanged until you publish the draft.

Video Tutorial

How to create a new template

  1. Go to Risk Assessments in Legl.

  2. Select New template in the top right corner.

  3. Give the template a name and configure the template settings.

  4. Select Edit form to begin adding sections and questions.

How to edit a published template

  1. Go to Risk Assessments in Legl and locate the published template you want to edit.

  2. Open the template and select Update.

  3. This creates a new draft version. The live template remains unchanged while you make edits.

  4. Make your changes to the draft.

  5. Select Save to keep the draft, or Discard to remove your changes.

  6. When you are ready for your changes to go live, select Publish.

ℹ️ Important

Saving a draft does not publish it. Your firm will continue using the existing live version until you explicitly publish the updated draft.

How to add and configure questions

Once you are in Edit form view, you can add and configure questions within each section.

Adding a question

  1. Scroll to the section where you want to add a question.

  2. Select Add question.

  3. Enter the question text.

  4. Select the answer type. Available options include:

    • Yes / No

    • Dropdown (with custom answer options)

    • Short text

    • Long text

  5. Optionally add helper text to guide users when completing the assessment.

  6. Assign a risk rating (Low, Medium, or High) to each answer option where applicable.

  7. Mark the question as required if it must be answered before the assessment can be completed.

  8. Select Save.

Adding conditional (follow-up) questions

You can add follow-up questions that only appear when a specific answer is selected.

  1. Select Add conditional question beneath an existing question.

  2. Enter the follow-up question text and choose the answer type.

  3. Confirm the condition — the question will display the answer that triggers this follow-up question (for example, "when [Question] is Yes").

  4. Mark as required if needed, then select Save.

Conditional questions appear indented in the template editor and show when they will be displayed. They cannot be moved above the question they depend on.

Reordering questions

Use the arrow controls beside each question to move it up or down within a section. Questions with conditional dependencies cannot be moved above their parent question.

Previewing a template before publishing

Before publishing, use the Preview tab to test how the template will appear to users.

  • The preview includes a risk scoring simulation on the right-hand side, so you can see how different answer combinations affect the overall risk rating in real time.

  • Conditional questions will appear or disappear based on the answers you select, allowing you to test your logic before going live.

What happens next

  • Once published, the updated template replaces the previous live version immediately.

  • Fee-earners starting a new risk assessment will see the latest published version of the template.

  • Risk assessments already in progress are not affected by template changes.

Important information

  • Only admin users can create or edit Risk Assessment templates.

  • Edits to a published template are made in a draft and do not affect fee-earners until the draft is published.

  • Use the Preview tab and risk scoring simulation to check your template logic before publishing.
