Understanding payment insights

Understand your firm's payment performance and transaction history using the Insights and Billing dashboards in Legl.

Written by Ula Moyse-White

Overview

The Insights > Pay feature in Legl gives your firm a detailed view of payment activity over time. It is split into two tabs: Insights, which shows analytics charts and summary data, and Billing, which shows a transaction-level list of all payments processed through Legl.

Where you will see this

Go to Insights from the left-hand navigation, then select Pay. The feature opens on the Insights tab by default. Both tabs can be filtered by relative date, custom date range, and department.

What this means

The Insights tab

The Insights tab shows aggregated payment data in charts and summary tiles, including:

  • Total amount paid, total number of payments, and average time to pay

  • Total paid by month and total transactions per month

  • Total paid by department

  • Checkout route breakdown (Pay Request, Engage Payment, Phone Payment, Payment Portal, Scheduled Payment, Batch Reminder Payments)

  • Digital wallet usage and card type breakdown

  • Amount processed outside of standard office hours

  • Payment requests raised by β€” showing successful payments, payments awaiting completion, and marked paid, by user and department

Each chart can be downloaded as CSV, JSON, or Excel using the three-dot menu on the chart. The full page can be downloaded as a PDF using the download icon in the top right.

The Billing tab

The Billing tab shows a transaction-level list of every payment processed through Legl. Each row includes:

  • Legl reference

  • Date of payment

  • Department

  • Payer name

  • Invoice reference

  • Matter reference

  • Transaction type (for example, Card fees, Amex fees, international fees, Pay by Bank)

  • Card country

  • Card brand

  • Payment amount

  • Transaction fee

The Billing tab can be downloaded as a PDF using the download icon in the top right, or as a CSV using the three-dot menu.

ℹ️ Further guidance

  • Downloaded files reflect the filtered view currently shown on screen.

Important information

  • Insights > Pay is a reporting view only. You cannot manage, close, or action payments from within this feature.

  • Data reflects payments processed through Legl. Payments taken outside of Legl will not appear unless manually recorded in the Payments dashboard.

  • Access to Insights may depend on your role and permissions within Legl.

  • The transaction fee shown in the Billing tab is the amount charged to your firm by Legl for processing each payment.
