Overview
Trust onboarding in Legl allows law firms to create trusts as structured entities and automatically analyse trust deeds to identify the individuals and businesses connected to them. This removes uncertainty from trust onboarding and gives compliance and onboarding teams clarity on who requires AML checks, without relying on senior legal oversight.
The feature is designed for onboarding, compliance, and risk teams who regularly manage trust matters and need a faster, more auditable way to onboard them.
What you can use Trust onboarding for
You can use Trust onboarding in Legl to:
Create trusts as structured entities inside Legl, similar to individuals and businesses
Automatically analyse trust deeds to identify trustees, beneficiaries, and settlors
Clearly see which individuals or businesses are connected to a trust and why
Trigger AML checks directly from the trust, including Engage requests, instant screening, and KYB where applicable
Maintain a connected, ongoing view of the trust and all associated contacts throughout the client lifecycle
How Trust onboarding works
When a trust is created in Legl, it exists as its own entity within your contact database.
You can upload a trust deed to the trust, which Legl automatically analyses using natural language processing. The system extracts key roles named in the deed—such as trustees, beneficiaries, and settlors—and presents them in a clear, structured format for review.
Once reviewed and confirmed, these individuals or businesses are added as associated contacts to the trust. From there, AML and KYB workflows can be triggered directly, and all activity remains linked to the trust for audit and reporting purposes.
This approach removes the need for manual interpretation of lengthy trust deeds in most cases and significantly reduces the time required to onboard trust matters.
