Risk Assessments: How to Start, Complete and Manage

Assess client and matter risk in Legl - quick, consistent, and aligned with your firm’s policies.

🧩 Template Management

To get started, the Legl team will digitise your existing Client and Matter Risk Assessment templates and configure them with your firm’s risk logic.

We'll work with you to:

✅ Tailor the assessment to reflect your internal policies and risk appetite
✅ Apply automatic risk logic to calculate risk levels based on your inputs

This means:

📊 Risk is assessed consistently across your team
🧠 Risk ratings are auto-generated using your own logic
⚠️ Potential risks are flagged early for mitigation

Need to evolve your risk approach? Templates and logic can be updated at any time.


🚀 Starting a Risk Assessment

You can now start a Risk Assessment from three different areas in Legl:

  1. From the Dashboard

  • Click Start Risk Assessment from the top of the dashboard

  • You’ll be guided to select the contact and template

2. From the Risk Assessments Page

  • Go to Risk Assessments in the side menu

  • Click Start Risk Assessment in the top-right corner

  • Select the contact and template to begin

3. From a Contact’s Profile

  • Go to Contacts and search for the relevant person or business

  • Click into the record, then select Start Risk Assessment

Whichever route you use, you’ll follow the same process to configure and complete the assessment.


✍️ Completing a Risk Assessment

  • All questions are typically mandatory to ensure assessments are robust and complete.

  • Conditional logic has been applied to show only the relevant follow-up questions based on your inputs - streamlining the process.

  • Once all required information has been entered, click Calculate risk rating to generate a rating based on your configured logic.

  • You’ll then have the opportunity to outline any risk mitigations before marking the assessment as complete.


👁️ Viewing Risk Assessments

  • Navigate to the Risk Assessments page to view all assessments.

  • Use filters to view assessments by status, type, or risk rating.


🔁 Updating a Risk Assessment

  • To update a completed assessment, open it and click Update Risk Assessment.

  • This creates a new version, carrying over all previously entered data.

  • Make your updates, re-calculate the risk rating, and complete the assessment.

  • You’ll be asked to provide a reason for the update, which is recorded for audit purposes.

  • All previous versions are stored in the version history, with changes clearly highlighted.


📄 Downloading a Risk Assessment

  • To download a completed assessment as a PDF, open the assessment and click Download PDF.

  • Previous versions can also be downloaded from the version history, offering a full audit trail.
