How to configure general settings

Configure your firm's branding, contact details, and the client-facing email copy your clients receive from the general settings page in Legl.

Overview

The general settings page is where firm Admins manage the settings shared across your Legl products. From one place you can set your firm's branding, keep your contact details up to date, and customise the copy of the client-facing emails your clients receive. Changes are self-serve and apply to future client communications once saved.

Before you start

  • You must be a Legl Admin

  • Navigate to Settings, then select General

How to configure general settings

  1. Log in to the Legl Dashboard.

  2. Go to Settings from the left-hand navigation menu.

  3. Select General.

  4. Choose a category from the left of the page: Branding, Contact details, or Client emails.

  5. Update the fields you need.

  6. Select Save, or Save template when editing an email, to apply your changes.

The general settings page is organised into the following categories:

Branding

Set your firm's primary brand colour and the logos shown to your clients.

  • Primary colour – your firm's primary brand colour, applied across the Engage end-client experience and Legl Pay.

  • Firm logo – shown across the Engage end-client experience, emails, and documents. Accepts PNG, JPG or SVG files up to 5MB.

  • Mobile logo – a compact, square mark used on mobile and other tight spaces where the full logo does not fit. If no mobile logo is set, your firm logo is used instead. Accepts PNG, JPG or SVG files up to 5MB.

Your firm name is managed in your firm profile.

Contact details

Set how clients can reach your firm. These details appear in the Engage end-client experience.

  • Email – your firm's contact email.

  • Phone number – your firm's contact number.

  • Website – your firm's public website address.

  • Offices – add one or more offices, and mark one as your head office to show it first.

Client emails

Customise the body of the emails your clients receive. Select an email to open the editor, edit the Email body, use the Preview to see exactly what your client will receive, then select Save template.

You can customise the following emails:

  • Payment emails – Payment request and Payment reminder.

  • Engage emails – Engage information request and Engage information reminder.

Each email shows whether it is currently Using default copy or has been customised. Use the Insert placeholder buttons to add dynamic fields such as Firm name, Recipient first name, Recipient last name, and Sender full name. Payment emails also include Amount, Invoice number, and Matter reference placeholders.

The email copy you enter here is separate from your workflow text: text entered in an email does not appear in the workflow, and workflow text does not appear in the email. The preview is a one-to-one representation of what your client receives, so there is no need to repeat greetings that are already included.

Customised payment reminder copy also applies to batch payment reminder emails. The schedule for when payment reminders are sent is configured separately in your Pay settings.

What happens next

Your changes are saved to your firm's settings and apply to future client communications. Emails already sent, and reminders already in progress, are not affected.

Important information

  • Only Admins can access and update the general settings page.

  • Your firm's branding is initially set up with the Legl launch team and pulled in automatically; the general settings page lets Admins update it afterwards.

  • Changing your firm's primary colour currently has a limited effect, and it is not yet applied to email headers, footers, or buttons.

  • Payment plan emails are not currently customisable.

  • Use the email preview to confirm the exact content your client will receive before saving.
