Overview
You can run AML checks on company directors directly from the Company Report in Legl.
There are three ways to do this: Instant Screening on an individual director, bulk Instant Screening for all directors at once, or sending a full Engage request for CDD.
You would complete this when onboarding a business or conducting additional due diligence on associated individuals.
Before you start
You must have access to Engage for Businesses.
A Company Report must have been run so that directors are visible in the Structure and Ownership tab.
How to run AML checks on company directors
Go to Engage β Businesses.
Select the relevant business.
On the Business Contact page, click View next to the Company Report.
Go to the Structure and Ownership tab.
Under Directors, locate the director you wish to screen.
You will see three available options.
Option 1: Instant Screening (single director)
This runs a watchlist screening (PEPs and sanctions) on one director without contacting them.
π‘ Note
Instant Screening (individual & bulk) is only available for individuals marked as Person in the Structure and Ownership tab. It cannot be run on company entities.
Click Instant screen next to the director's name.
Select an existing contact if one appears, or create a new one.
Add date of birth and country of residence where known β this helps narrow results and reduce false positives.
Enter a matter reference (optional).
Assign a reviewer (optional).
Add a note for the reviewer if required.
Click Submit. The screening will run immediately.
To view the result straight away, click View report.
βΉοΈ Important
Running an Instant Screening on a director does not contact them. We recommend adding as much information as you know, as it will help narrow watchlist results and reduce false positives.
Option 2: Screen all directors (bulk screening)
This runs AML checks on multiple directors in a single action.
Click Screen all directors.
Review the list of directors shown. Existing contacts in Legl will be automatically matched; new directors will be identified as new contacts.
Select the directors you want to screen.
Enter a matter reference (optional).
Assign a reviewer (optional).
Add a note if required.
Click Submit. All selected screenings will run.
You will be taken to the Activity page, where you can view each individual screening report.
βΉοΈ Important
Each director screening is charged individually. The system checks for existing contacts before creating new ones, reducing duplicate records.
Option 3: Send an Engage request
Use this option when you need full CDD β for example, ID verification and enhanced AML checks β rather than watchlist screening alone.
Click Create Engage request.
Enter the director's email address, first name, and surname. Middle names and client references are optional.
Click Continue.
Enter a matter reference (optional).
Assign a reviewer (optional).
Select the relevant workflow for your firm.
Click Create Engage request.
Choose your email and reminder settings.
Click Send email, or copy the shareable link to send via another channel.
What happens next
Instant Screening results can be viewed immediately via View report.
Bulk screenings appear individually in the Activity section of the Business Contact page.
Engage requests are sent to the director and will move to Ready for review once completed.
All screening activity is recorded against both the business and the individual contact for audit purposes.
Important information
Instant Screening is only available for individuals marked as Person in the Structure and Ownership tab. It cannot be run on company entities.
Instant Screening covers watchlist screening (PEPs and sanctions) only.
Engage requests are required if full identity verification or document collection is needed.
Matter references and reviewer assignments are optional but recommended for audit tracking.
Screening decisions and reviews remain the responsibility of your firm.
