Overview

Onboarding a business in Legl starts with a new business search in Engage for Businesses. This generates the Company Report and sanctions screening, and directs you to the Business Contact page where all compliance activity is managed.

Before you start

  • You must have the Business onboarding permission enabled. Contact your firm's Admin if you do not have access.

How to onboard a business

  1. Go to Engage from the left-hand navigation menu.

  2. Select Businesses.

  3. Click New business search in the top right corner.

  4. Enter the company name or company number. Using the company number may return a more accurate result.

  5. Select the relevant jurisdiction.

  6. Click to search.

You will be presented with two sets of results:

  • Existing companies β€” businesses already in your Legl account

  • New company results β€” matches returned from the registry search

  1. If the company already exists in your account, click View to open it.

  2. If the company is new, click Start.

ℹ️ Important

Clicking Start will immediately generate the Company Report, run the sanctions screening, and turn on ongoing monitoring for the business.

This process incurs a charge to the firm.

You will then be taken to the Business Contact page, where reports are stored and managed.

What you can do from the Business Contact page

The Business Contact page is the central location for managing the company and all its compliance activity. From here, you can:

  • View and download the Company Report and sanctions screening

  • Refresh the Company Report and sanctions screening

  • Start a risk assessment

  • Create an Engage request for associated individuals

  • View and manage associated contacts (individuals and businesses)

  • Enable or manage ongoing monitoring

  • View the company's activity history

πŸ’‘ Note

When both the Company Report and sanctions screening are available, a combined download button appears at the top of the Business Contact page. This lets you download both reports in a single click.

You can also view and update general company information such as company number, type, registered address, and client reference:

  1. Click Edit details

  2. Edit any relevant fields in the side panel

  3. Save changes.

What happens next

Once onboarded:

  • The Company Report and sanctions screening are saved against the business.

  • The Business Contact page becomes the single source of truth for the company.

  • Ongoing monitoring is automatically enabled, changes to the company or sanctions status will be flagged automatically.

  • You can proceed with individual screening, risk assessments, or Engage workflows as required.

Important information

  • Clicking Start immediately generates both the Company Report and sanctions screening. These actions incur a charge.

  • Reports must be reviewed and marked in line with your firm's compliance process.

  • If you cannot find the company, try searching by company number or check that the correct jurisdiction is selected. Newly registered companies may take 2–3 days to appear.
