What is the Payment Portal?

The Payment Portal gives your firm a shareable checkout link. Clients use it to enter their own payment amount and pay securely.

Overview

The Payment Portal is a feature within Legl Pay that gives your firm a shareable checkout link. You can add this link to invoices or share it with clients directly, allowing them to securely enter their own payment details and amount.

All payments made through the Payment Portal are visible in your Pay dashboard, where you can track statuses such as Created, Sent, Paid, Refunded, and Transferred.

What you can use the Payment Portal for

  • Adding a payment link to invoices so clients can pay the exact amount due

  • Embedding a payment button on your firm's website

  • Sharing a link directly with a client when you want them to enter the amount themselves

How the Payment Portal works

When a client opens your Checkout Link, they are taken to a secure, branded payment page with your firm's logo and contact details.

The client will:

  • Agree to the Terms of Use before paying

  • Enter their name and email address

  • Enter an invoice or matter reference (if required)

  • Enter the payment amount

  • Select a payment method and complete checkout

Once payment is completed:

  • The client receives an automatic email receipt

  • The payment status updates to Paid in your dashboard

  • You can view payment history, billing details, card type, and any references provided

Payments are initially received into a Legl holding account and transferred to your firm's nominated bank account twice daily (9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday). Transfer details are available under the Transfers tab.

Where to find the Payment Portal in Legl
