Overview
The Payment Portal allows you to collect payments securely from clients using shareable links or embedded checkout pages. You would use this when requesting a specific payment amount or when allowing clients to enter their own payment details from an invoice.
All payments are visible in your Pay dashboard, where you can track statuses such as Created, Sent, Paid, Refunded, and Transferred.
How to use the Checkout Link (client enters amount)
Use this option when you want clients to enter their own payment amount, for example from an invoice.
Go to Pay.
Copy your firm’s Checkout Link.
Add the link to your invoice or share it directly with the client.
The client will:
Enter their name and email address.
Enter the invoice or matter reference (if required).
Enter the payment amount.
Select a payment method and complete checkout.

What happens next
The client receives a branded payment page with your firm’s logo and details.
The client must agree to the Terms of Use before paying.
Once payment is completed, the client receives an email receipt.
The payment status updates to Paid in your dashboard.
You can click into the payment to view:

Any references provided
Payments are initially received into a Legl holding account. Transfers are then made to your firm’s bank account at 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.
You can view transfer details under the Transfers tab and export the breakdown for reconciliation.
Important information
It is not possible to CC a third party directly into a Pay Request email. If needed, copy the shareable link and include it in your own email.
Card details entered by clients are not stored on the platform.
You can close a payment link at any time to prevent further payments being made on it.
If you need to change your payment limits (e.g. maximum transaction value), contact Support at [email protected].
