Overview

If your firm needs to accept payments from overseas clients, Legl allows you to enable AMEX, European, and International card payments. These options can be activated to support cross-border transactions and ensure clients can pay using the card types available to them.

Overseas payment settings are managed by the Legl Support Team and can be tailored to your firm’s operational requirements.

How this works at a high level

Legl’s Pay feature allows firms to send payment requests, generate checkout links, take phone payments, and embed payments into Engage workflows.

When overseas or AMEX payments are enabled:

  • Clients can select eligible card types during checkout.

  • Payments are processed securely through Legl.

  • Funds are transferred to your firm via the standard transfer process.

  • All transactions appear in your Pay dashboard, alongside domestic payments.

Overseas payment acceptance is controlled at the firm level and must be enabled or amended by the Support Team. Processing fees vary depending on the card type and region.

When you would use this

You may want to enable overseas payments when:

  • Your firm works with international clients

  • Clients need to pay using AMEX

  • You regularly receive payments from European cardholders

  • You want to reduce payment friction for cross-border matters

Key things to be aware of

  • AMEX, European, and International card payments are not enabled automatically.

  • Processing fees vary depending on the card type and region.

  • Payment settings can only be amended by the Legl Support Team.

  • Card payment limits (for example, maximum transaction values) can also be updated via Support.
