How to delegate a source in a Commercial Source of Funds request

How to delegate part of your Source of Funds submission to a third party, such as an investor or business partner.

Written by Ula Moyse-White

Overview

If part of the funding for your transaction is coming from a third party, such as an investor, a business partner, or another entity, you can delegate that source to them directly. The third party will receive their own link to complete their section of the request independently, without needing to go through your law firm.

ℹ️ Further guidance

For the full submission process, see:

Before you start

Before delegating a source, make sure:

  • You are completing a Commercial Source of Funds request and have reached the stage of declaring your sources

  • The funding for one or more sources is coming from a third party

  • You have the third party's name and contact details so you can send them the link

When to use delegation

Use delegation when:

  • A source of funding involves someone who is not you, for example an investor providing part of the money

  • The third party has their own banking evidence to provide

  • You are the main point of contact with the law firm but the third party needs to submit their own information directly

How to delegate a source

  1. When declaring your sources of funding, select the source you want to delegate.

  2. Select Delegate this source.

  3. You will be prompted to create a link for the third party.

  4. Copy the link and send it to the third party through whatever channel you prefer, for example email or messaging.

  5. The source will show as Pending in your application until the third party completes their section.

ℹ️ Important

Legl does not send this link automatically. You are responsible for sharing it with the relevant person and following up until completion.

What the third party needs to do

The third party will receive their own link and complete that source on their own. They will be asked to declare the source, provide the relevant details and supporting documents for it, and, if they have already received the funds, connect a bank account or upload statements. The exact questions depend on the type of source.

They do not need to contact your law firm directly. Their submission is connected to your application automatically once they complete it.

What happens next

Once the third party submits their section, their source updates from Pending to Completed in your application, and you will see their contribution listed alongside your other sources.

You can continue with all other parts of your Source of Funds request while a delegated source is still pending. However, your request will not be submitted to your law firm as fully complete until the delegated source has been completed.

Important information

  • If the third party has not received the link or cannot access it, return to the delegation section of your application to copy and share it again.

  • You can complete all other parts of your request while a delegated source is pending, but it will only be submitted to your law firm as fully complete once every delegated source has been completed.

  • Delegating a source is only available for business (commercial) Source of Funds requests.

  • If you are unsure whether a source should be delegated or completed by you, check with your law firm before proceeding.
