How to delegate a source in a Commercial Source of Funds request

How to delegate part of your Source of Funds submission to a third party, such as an investor or business partner.

Written by Ula Moyse-White

Overview

If part of the funding for your transaction is coming from a third party, such as an investor, a business partner, or another entity, you can delegate that source to them directly. The third party will receive their own link to complete their section of the request independently, without needing to go through your law firm.

When to use delegation

Use delegation when:

  • A source of funding involves someone who is not you, for example an investor providing part of the money

  • The third party has their own banking evidence to provide

  • You are the main point of contact with the law firm but the third party needs to submit their own information directly

How to delegate a source

  1. When declaring your sources of funding, select the source you want to delegate.

  2. Select Delegate this source.

  3. You will be prompted to create a link for the third party.

  4. Copy the link and send it to the third party through whatever channel you prefer, for example email or messaging.

  5. The source will show as Pending in your application until the third party completes their section.

ℹ️ Important

Legl does not send this link automatically. You are responsible for sharing it with the relevant person and following up until completion.

What the third party needs to do

The third party will receive their own link and complete a separate source of funds submission. They will be asked to declare their source type, provide details, and submit bank statement evidence in the same way as a standard submission.

They do not need to contact your law firm directly. Their submission is connected to your application automatically once they complete it.

What happens next

Once the third party submits their section, their source will update from Pending to complete in your application. You will be able to see their contribution listed alongside your other sources.

If all sources are complete, you can proceed to submit your full application.

Important information

  • The delegation link is generated by you, not by Legl. Legl does not send an email to the third party on your behalf. You need to share the link with them directly.

  • If the third party has not received the link or cannot access it, you will need to share it with them again. You can return to the delegation section of your application to copy the link.

  • A delegated source that remains pending will not hold up your ability to submit the rest of your application, but the application will not be complete until all delegated sources are submitted.

  • If you are unsure whether a source should be delegated or completed by you, check with your law firm before proceeding.
