Overview
Pre-tagging lets you mark where signatures and other fields should appear on a document before you upload it to Legl. Once a document is pre-tagged, those fields appear automatically every time you upload it for an e-signature request, so you do not have to tag it manually each time.

Before you start
Have the document you want signed open in Word or Google Docs. You add the tags in your word processor before saving the file and uploading it to Legl.
Know which fields each signer needs, for example signature, initials, date, or name.
How to pre-tag a document
Step 1: Add a tag snippet for each field
Each field type has a text snippet that you copy and paste into your document where you want that field to appear. For example, the following snippet places a signature field for the first signer:

Legl creates the tag automatically when you upload the document. The table below lists the snippets for up to three signers. You only need to include tags for the signers your document requires.

ℹ️ Important
Tags are limited to 50 characters. If a tag is close to the limit, add an underscore between the wording and the final square bracket to make room, for example [text|req|signer1|name________].
A single tag cannot span multiple lines. If a field runs across more than one line, copy the same tag onto each line.
Step 2: Add more signers if needed
To add a signer beyond those in the table, change the signer number in the snippet. For example, for a fourth signer use:

Step 3: Hide the snippets by setting them to white
Before saving your document, set all snippet text to white so it does not show to the signer.
For Word
Select the snippet you want to hide.
On the Home tab, in the Font group, select the arrow next to the icon of an A with an underline.
Choose white from the colour selection.
For Google Docs
Select the snippet you want to hide.
On the toolbar, select the button with the A icon and a thick underline.
Choose white from the colour selection.
Step 4: Save and download your document
Once all tags are added and set to white, save the document and then download it as a PDF.
Step 5: Upload the pre-tagged document
When you create a new e-signature request, upload your pre-tagged PDF and add the signer details. The tags appear automatically, and will do so every time you upload this document in future.
What happens next
Your pre-tagged document is ready to reuse. Each time you upload it for an e-signature request, the tagged fields appear automatically, so you do not need to tag it again.
Important information
Set every snippet to white before saving, so the tags stay hidden from the signer in the final document.
Upload the pre-tagged document as a PDF. The tags appear when you add the signer details.
The same pre-tagged file can be reused for all future signature requests.
Copy tags exactly as shown, including the square brackets and pipe characters.
